About the Super Fidelity Edition: Misanthrope is available in a Super Fidelity Edition. This special edition is an extremely high definition audio download, specifically 96kHz 24bit format. Please ensure you have top-notch playback hardware capable of and compatible with 96kHz 24bit before downloading. Also, be aware the download size is huge; approximately 1,700MB. The Super Fidelity Edition should only be downloaded by serious audiophiles. If you don’t know what 96kHz 24bit means, the chances are you won’t be able to play it. In layman’s terms, it’s studio fidelity audio, far greater than that of CD. Unless you have serious audio hardware, there is little point in downloading it. But some music-lovers do! Note, the Super Fidelity Edition has been engineered differently to the normal edition to maximally utilise the dynamic range of 24bit audio — it is not just a high resolution version of exactly the same thing! IMPORTANT NOTE: When downloading the Super Fidelity Edition, you must ensure you select FLAC or ALAC as your chosen download format at checkout time. Misanthrope is the second album from Leitm✪tif. It is a dark yet contemporary concept album centred on a melodramatic female character who personifies the abstract concept of romantic or sexual obsession. Her identity is most extensively explored in the songs Dancing Clockwork Figurine, Cockroaches and The Warning Sign. It is left to anyone who listens to this album to peel back the layers of secrecy.
The album was deliberately written and produced to flaunt a broad variety of musical styles and influences. It has “riffy”, heavy pop/rock. It has gloomy progressive rock. It has nuances of 1980s new wave (The Cure, Japan, etc), 1990s grunge (The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, etc), blues, electronic/synth new age (Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Olfield, etc) and jazz. This broadness of musicality is much broader than the first Leitm✪tif album, Sorority, which was, in retrospect, a grunge album with some subtle additions of psychedelia and new age.
First draft rough mix was completed around August/September 2007 (shortly after release of Sorority). The final recording and mix was worked on extensively (a full time job, in actual fact!) from early October 2007 to late January 2008. The album was first released in download format only on MusicZeit in February 2008. It was later released on iTunes, Napster, AmazonMP3 and others. In 2009 it was released on the official Leitm✪tif website (at launch of the online store) for download in a variety of high quality formats including lossless FLAC. FLAC is recommended for its true CD lossless quality — far better than lossy formats like MP3, M4A-AAC, etc, which do not do this album’s production and mastering justice.
In 2012, four years after the album’s first release, it was finally released in high definition studio fidelity with a “Super Fidelity Edition” download, offering serious audiophile music-lovers an extreme fidelity experience. The “Super Fidelity Edition” has been engineered differently to the normal CD quality version to maximally utilise the large dynamic range of 24bit audio — it is not just a high resolution release of the exact same thing!
